Go Groups: Session Nine
Go Places : Shameless Audacity
Philip Harding

Session overview

Philip Harding stood atop the towering mountain, his eyes fixed on the treacherous path that lay ahead. The wind whipped through his hair, and the exhilaration of the climb coursed through his veins. With unwavering determination, he addressed the group of adventurers gathered around him.

"Hey, everyone, look at this!" Philip's voice boomed with a commanding presence. "Normally, this sprint's going one way, but not today. Today, we defy gravity and ascend this mountain! Give yourselves some snaps, for you are going places!"

A ripple of excitement surged through the crowd as they absorbed Philip's words. They knew they were embarking on a grand adventure, a journey that would push them to their limits. This was phase three of their epic quest, Go Places, and they had worked tirelessly to reach this point. But Philip knew that most people would falter here. They would succumb to fear, doubt, or complacency.

Philip's voice grew resolute, echoing through the mountain peaks. "Most people pause when they reach this precipice. Most people stop. They freeze up, believing that someone else should shoulder the burden. They drown in the sea of 'oughta, coulda, woulda.' They claim they are too busy or not skilled enough. But not us! We are different. We are ascending this mountain!"

The adventurers roared in agreement, their spirits soaring with newfound determination. They would not be deterred by obstacles or doubts. They had uncovered their passion, purpose, and calling, and they felt it coursing deep within their souls. They had done their research, interviewed experts, and dissected the problem they aimed to solve. Yet, Philip knew that this was the juncture where most people would falter.

"But you," Philip pointed at each individual, his voice filled with conviction, "you are not like most people. You are climbing this mountain! You are forging ahead with shameless audacity. You knock, you seek, you ask. Even in the face of uncertainty and challenge, you continue to press forward. Your shameless audacity is your armor!"

The adventurers cheered, their hearts pounding with excitement. They embraced Philip's words, knowing that their audacity would carry them to extraordinary heights. Philip then opened a worn scroll, his voice resonating with power as he shared ancient wisdom.

"Let me read to you from Luke eleven," Philip announced, his eyes shining with fervor. "Jesus himself said, 'I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you.' This is the path of the audacious, my friends. As you exhibit shameless audacity living out your big, hairy, audacious purpose, the doors of opportunity will swing wide open for you!"

The adventurers nodded, inspired by the timeless words. They understood that their audacity would pave the way to triumph. Philip continued, his voice a beacon of encouragement.

"Your audacity in running these sprints and taking action sets you apart. No longer will you remain on the sidelines, waiting for others to step up. You are in the arena, facing challenges head-on. The excuses of time, money, and skill fade into insignificance before your audacity. You are learners, sprinting with intent, gathering knowledge, and making an impact. Your audacity will be rewarded!"

The adventurers roared with renewed determination. They were no longer mere spectators but active participants in their own destinies. Philip urged them to keep going, to embrace the adventure unfolding before them.

"Keep running these experiments!" Philip's voice echoed across the mountaintop. "You are not just talking about it; you are doing it. There is no failure, only learning!”

Module 3 Experiments

  1. Run a Design Sprint (iterate based on feedback and reflection)

Follow the five steps of the sprint described in the lesson video and guides. Build on past work and develop an empathetic prototype to test and learn with real people.

  2. Feedback and Reflection 🫰🏼🫰🏼

Get feedback / input from other people and reflect on your experiments. 250 words for each.

Action items:

  1. Keep running lean, focused sprints to learn as much as possible.

  2. Be driven by the problem and fall in love with it.

  3. Build prototypes and test them with real customers / users, approach it like a science experiment, measure data, reflect, and iterate.

  4. Don't be afraid of the word failure, there's only learning.

  5. Gather data intentionally every step of the way.

  6. Use storytelling to create a new story with the characters involved and build credibility. Match up your capabilities and resources with the needs of those you're serving.

  7. Keep seeking, knocking, and asking.

  8. Go out and run those sprints, imagine all the pictures that are going to be on your wall of all these people you've worked with, all these people you've had, these amazing experiences, all that you've learned with.

  9. Stay after it and keep going.

  10. In the next module, focus on how to scale, build momentum, and pitch it the right way.

Notes:

  • Focus on the problem being addressed and unpack different parts of it Shameless audacity is key to taking action
